The causative agent of acne is the anaerobic bacterium Propionibacterium acnes, which lives on the skin. When it enters pores, follicles, or any other favorable environment without air, it triggers inflammatory processes. The bacteria convert sebum into fatty acids, leading to pathological changes in the tissues.
